Adrenal Health - July 18th, 2011

Adrenal health allows us to handle the stresses and demands of life by helping the body to temporarily adapt. To do this, the body has to temporarily move the body out of balance (out of homeostasis) so that it can handle the increased demands of stress. Unfortunately, the adrenal glands may overreact and let the body stay in this "out of balance" place for longer than it needs to be. The continued exaggeration of the stress response can result in anxiety, sleep disorders, heart palpitations, high blood pressure and other signs of stress. If this continues, the adrenal glands eventually lose their ability to help the body adapt to stress. If the body cannot adapt to temporary stress, symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, and depression can develop.

There are specific lifestyle, nutritional and herbal therapies that can restore normal adrenal function an improve quality of life. The public is welcome to this free lecture on Adrenal Health by Joseph J Collins, RN, ND; an international leader in natural hormone health.

Thyroid Health - August 15th, 2011

Thyroid health is required for energy, metabolism and proper use of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Even "low normal" function can significantly interfere with optimal health. In addition, we now know that even with "normal" thyroid lab results there can still be sluggish thyroid function because the cells of the body do not respond to the thyroid hormone properly. This inability to get a good response to thyroid hormones is a type of hormone resistance, which can leave people feeling fatigued, with difficulty thinking, and difficulty maintaining an ideal body weight.

Learn more about proper thyroid function, which lab tests will truly reveal thyroid health, and which foods and herbs can naturally improve thyroid function. The public is welcome to this free lecture on Thyroid Health by Joseph J Collins, RN, ND; an international leader in natural hormone health.

Menopause Health - September 19, 2011

Menopause is a natural transition that all women will experience, but it does not have to include uncomfortable symptoms. Learn the physiology of hormonal transition periods, discuss the hormones involved and review the therapeutic options available.

This seminar will be presented by Jessica Curcio, NMD. Jessica is the president of the Iowa Naturopathic Physicians Association and has been practicing medicine since 2005. Jessica uses her background to provide general health knowledge to groups and other healthcare providers, which cannot and should not be construed as medical advice. She does not make recommendations or consult patients in Iowa.

Premenstrual Health - October 17, 2011

Despite wide-held beliefs, not all women experience premenstrual symptoms. For those women who do, premenstrual symptoms can be very different from woman to woman. There can be significant variation in discomfort, mood changes, fluid retention, and cravings. Recognizing these variations helps us understand each woman's need. Proper assessment of symptoms, with the aid of questionnaires and charts, can accurately reveal the specific cause of PMS symptoms in each specific woman.

Learn the different causes of PMS and how each woman can know what her specific needs are and make PMS a thing of the past.

Men's Hormone Health - November 21, 2011

Men are at increased risk of developing hormonal imbalances due to aging, stress or chronic illnesses. These hormonal changes in men are called andropause, which can cause imbalances of testosterone, as well as other hormones such as DHEA and estrogens. While it is good that there is increased attention being given to testosterone, it is also important to be aware of other common hormone imbalances that occur in men as they age, especially since testosterone therapy can make some of these problems worse.

Learn the complete answers on how to properly evaluate male hormone health and choose effective and safe therapies.

Insulin and Blood Sugar Health - December 19, 2011

Imbalances in blood sugar levels and poor insulin function can occur with any other hormone imbalance, and can complicate recovery from adrenal fatigue, hypothyroidism, menopause, PMS and andropause. Proper blood sugar balance is required for the health of every part of your body, from the brain, to the heart to the kidneys, as well as the thyroid and adrenal glands, and ovaries or testes. Whenever adrenal fatigue, hypothyroidism, menopause, PMS or andropause are addressed, blood sugar is part of the problem.

Learn about the important role of healthy blood sugar levels and how to avoid the consequences of unmanaged blood sugar.
