What is nutrition support?
Nutrition support is important for patients who are unable to take in nutrients via a normal route so they're unable to eat a diet so that's either because they have an acute illness or they may have had surgery to take out part of their stomach or their small intestine and so they no longer are able to absorb nutrition from the food that they're able to swallow. In those patients, there are a couple of options. One is either a feeding tube that goes into the stomach or into the small intestine. The other option for patients that can't do the feeding tube is to have what we would call a central intravenous catheter, and that's just a line, an IV line, that goes into their bloodstream.
